HGTV Documentary Special "Bed & Breakfast Dream"
Leaking ceilings, collapsing floors and other expensive surprises are all part of the challenge of renovating an old turn of the century Prince Edward island farmhouse.
In this one hour documentary special - Bed & Breakfast Dream - aired on HGTV March 20, 2004 - viewers follow Mary and Bill Kendrick as they roll up their sleeves and begin to turn an 90-year-old vacant farmhouse into a spectacular bed and breakfast called the Briarcliffe Inn in Fernwood, Prince Edward Island.
When a friend of Mary and Bill was going to see a house with a real estate agent, she invited them to go along knowing how much they loved old houses. It wasn't what their friend was looking for but it rekindled a dream in the Kendricks.... to run a bed and breakfast.
Bed & Breakfast Dreamchronicles the day-to-day decisions that need to be made when embarking on an endeavour of this nature. Working on an old home is ever-changing, with each wall removed or ceiling exposed, unforeseen challenges appear. And when conscious of a very real budget, expensive surprises can mean changing plans.....like with the Kendrick's surprise of having to drill a new water well, or uncovering a leaking ceiling, and floor joists in jeopardy of collapsing and an exterior wall held up by a rotting sill.
Bed & Breakfast Dream is a window on the life of an ordinary Canadian couple exploring a fantasy held by many couples......a very personal story of the pursuit of a dream and the realities of that pursuit.
